National Skills Week is in full swing at the Vocational Innovation Centre (VIC), located at Seven Hills High School. This exciting week is a celebration of Vocational Education and Training (VET) and the incredible opportunities it offers to over 20 Western Sydney high schools. Delivered as part of students’ HSC, these courses are designed to address national skill shortages and provide students with clear, practical pathways into rewarding careers.
This week, the VIC has opened its doors to both current Seven Hills high school students and local primary school students, offering hands-on activities that encourage all participants to “Explore ALL the options” available through vocational learning.
Throughout the week, students are engaging in a range of dynamic activities that showcase key industries and skill areas.
The program includes:
*Primary School Engagement Days, where younger students get their first taste of vocational education.
*Inclusive Education activities include making keychains, while
*VET Exploration sessions allow students to rotate between two skill-building experiences: Health Services skills and Manufacturing.
*The popular Bottle Rockets activity teaches students about the principles of engineering and aerodynamics, culminating in a friendly launch competition.
*In “What’s My Line?”, an aspirational career activity, students connect directly with industry professionals to ask questions and learn about real-world career paths.
*Another highlight is the Drainage Plumbing Challenge, where primary school students work in teams to complete a practical task using pipes and the VIC’s sandpit area—developing collaboration and critical thinking skills along the way.
