As a unique government Year 10-12 secondary school, Northern College of the Arts and Technology (NCAT) is the only school in Victoria that offers specialty Vocational Major courses including Art Immersion, Photography, Music, Performance and Trades, where students spend most of their school hours completing multiple VET certificates in the area of their passion and their literacy, numeracy and other core subjects are anchored in their specialty.

The college has a recently built dedicated music wing, including ten practice rooms, a large recital room, music technology rooms, industry-standard recording studio, sound booth and mixing room. It also has two dance studios, a theatre studies studio and an auditorium with retractable seating. In the visual arts, NCAT has numerous Drawing, Art, Design & Fashion studios; a dedicated Photography centre with black & white and colour processing labs and four photographic studios as well as Mac labs and iPad & Multimedia suites.

NCAT is a recognised leader in Technology Education with a $20 million Trade Training Centre include extensive workshops for automotive, building & construction, engineering, plumbing, electrotechnology, furniture/wood, integrated technologies (NCAT being a CISCO Academy) and musical instrument making & repair.
