MEDIA RELEASE
Chairman of National Skills Week Welcomes New Federal Skills and Training Minister Andrew Giles MP
Sydney, 1 August 2024
With the annual National Skills Week initiative due in three weeks, from 19-25 August, Chairman Brian Wexham said he looks forward to working with the newly appointed Federal Minister Andrew Giles MP to help promote the Week.
This year’s National Skills Week seeks to inform Australians how life-changing Vocational Education and Training can be to their lives and the economy, Mr Wexham said.
Skills training and the educating of young people and their parents of the benefits and opportunities of much needed skill can be as rewarding as a tertiary education.
Skills shortages abound throughout Australia in industry and social services. Both Federal and state governments have allocated considerable resources through the establishment of Jobs and Skills Councils, TAFEs and other education facilities to fast forward skills training to meet the demands of a growing Australia.
This year National Skills Week 2024 runs from August 19 to 25th. It will be formally launched at the National Press Club on August 14th.
Mr Wexham said: “We are riding a wave of building momentum in favour of Vocational Education and Training. It has transformed Australian’s lives in various aspects: career, money, community, climate, global, technology, health, mindset, personal development and more.”
